  6. VersionWB is a replacement for the usual AmigaDos Version command,
  7. which now uses XfdMaster.library if available.
  8.  
  9. If you want the version information to be presented in
  10. a requester, this program is for you. Instead of
  11. like c:version just tell the version and revision number
  12. by default, VersionWB always tells you all it could find.
  13.  
  14. VersionWB have these features:
  15.  
  16. * It will bring up a requester with the version information.
  17.  
  18. * It support several files in the command line parameter template.
  19.  
  20. * You can shift-doubleclick an icon with VersionWB and
  21.   then get all that version stuff.
  22.  
  23. * You may also pick the file you want to know the version number of
  24.   by using a file requester.
  25.  
  26. * It will find version strings in WB1.3 libraries and devices,
  27.   c:version does not, e.g. narrator.device.
  28.  
  29. * If you use it with ToolManager you can have an appicon in
  30.   your Workbench. Drop the icon on the appicon, and the
  31.   version information will be presented (if the file contains a
  32.   version string :-)

  34. * It also has an optional text output.
  35.  
  36. * It recognizes any packed file (uses xfdmaster.library).

  50. V.2.8 (23.11.97) PUBLIC UPDATE
  51. ------------------------------
  52. NEW: 'VersionWB version 37' shall set the return value. With AmigaDos version
  53. it checks the version of Workbench and then returns the right value. (WARN or 0).
  54. I did not know about this so it wasn't implemented into VersionWB. This led
  55. to problems with some scripts which check that you are using the right Workbench,
  56. when you have renamed versionwb to version.
  57. (The script could tell you that you doesn't have WB 2.04+, while you sure have it.)
  58. NEW: VersionWB >ram:outputfile will now not open a requester. It outputs as text,
  59. compatible to AmigaDos version. VersionWB was incompatible to some scripts which
  60. captured the output.
  61. BUGFIX: Sometimes there was a space before the file-comment set by VersionWB.

  63. NEW: Now VersionWB tries all the shell-paths if it can't find the file in the current directory.
  64. e.g 'VersionWB multiview' should work.
  65. NEW: New command line argument SETDATE. It sets the file's date to the one found in version info.

  67. NEW: New command line argument NOMISC. If set, VersionWB does not show the miscellaneous info.
  68. NEW: New command line argument COMMENT. Short for COMFILE+COMDROPNAME+COMERASE+NOMISC, i.e. comments
  69. the file with the version number & date.
  70. NEW: Now most dates is converted to the format set in Locale-prefs.
  71. BUGFIX: The environmental variables were not read if ENV: wasn't an Device
  72. (it is with HappyENV).

  74. V.2.8a (28.11.97) PUBLIC UPDATE

  76. BUGFIX: VersionWB did an output like AmigaDos version when the output were
  77. redirected {>version.txt} (Without fields like Version:, Date:). even though the argument
  78. TEXT was specified. Led to problems with The VersionCopy.dopus-script.

  80. NEW: Added tooltype REQPATH. Specify which directory you want the requester
  81. to start with.

  86. BUGFIX: Devices, like DH0:, were not found.

  88. BUGFIX: Forgot to terminate a string, which could cause VersionWB to append
  89. a ':' to the filename. hm :-(
  90. BUGFIX: Dates could be showed wrong (doubled up), with multi selelction.

  92. V.2.9 (13.12.97) PUBLIC UPDATE
  93. -------------------------------
  94. BUGFIX: Original version does only show the filename and versionnumber
  95. by default. VersionWB does so too now to, when the output is redirected,
  96. to keep compatible with scripts which is using the output from Version.
  97. If the output is not redirected a requester will pop up ...
  98. Then there shouldn't be any problems with scripts. Because the output
  99. from C:version and VersionWB is the same.

  101. NEW: Argument LIKECVER added. If specified, VersionWB will only output the
  102. filename and versionnumber in text-mode, just like C:version.

  104. Just to make things clear: ...
  105.  
  106. If FULL is specified there will be a full text output with date and misc.
  107. If TEXT is specified there will be a full text output with fields like
  108. Version:, Date: and Misc:.
  109. If REQ is specified a requester will pop up with the version info.
  110. Default is REQ when started from CLI or WB.
  111. You may set your default for CLI-usage in the environmental variable
  112. VERSIONWB_PARAM
  113. e.g. SETENV VERSIONWB_PARAM "LIKECVER" , will make VersionWB behave like
  114. A-OS-Version. Then you must specify REQ for buttons in file managers.
  115. Don't forget to do a 'copy ENV:VERSIONWB_PARAM ENVARC:' to save the settings.

  117. BUGFIX: If you have cybergraphics.library VersionWB could ask for ENV:
  118. when the Amiga was booting up. This apply if you have replaced C:version
  119. with VersionWB.
  120. BUGFIX: Enforcer-hit. Hm. Did a 'used a C-string("") instead of a E-string('')'
  121. mistake.

  125. NEW: If you submit an empty filerequester (empty file-field and empty dir-field)
  126. System info will show up.
